Safety Supplies Canada: Your Service Partner for Fall Protection Inspection and Rebuilds
The implementation of a comprehensive fall protection plan is indispensable for any employer with workers situated on elevated surfaces or have a fall hazard in the vicinity of where they are working.
An important aspect of that plan is keeping up with inspections and certifications of each piece of equipment used on the job. Making sure your equipment is functional before using it seems like a no brainer, right? Unfortunately, the statistics tell us otherwise. Falls from elevated surfaces continue to be one of the leading causes of injuries and fatalities in various industries, due to lack of proper equipment, or the use of faulty gear.
PPE such as harnesses, lanyards, and SRL’s must be kept in immaculate condition to ensure the integrity of the gear. However, the dirty truth is that most of the time these particular products are tossed into gear bags, thrown in bins at the back of a truck or hanging up in a dirty shop while not in use. Sure, they are nice, shiny and clean when new, but put into the real world, we all know they get used and abused and can get downright grimy depending on your particular work environment.
No matter the length of time, or height for which the equipment is worn, every piece of equipment should be visually and manually inspected by an authorized person before use.
On top of this very necessary process, the CCOHS has set very clear and comprehensive regulations in regards to the thorough examination of equipment by certified companies.
Equipment inspection, conducted annually or in response to any compromise in integrity, are non-negotiable.
